Semester 2 - 2024

Livestream: Monday, 7:00-9:15pm (Sydney time) - with Graeme Dunkley

This course will challenge your worldview and will light a fire in your heart for mission.

The reading material is divided into several highly practical areas such as the biblical basis for mission, the history of mission, and then understanding how culture influences the way in which we go about mission. This material has been used to equip countless missionaries and is a brilliant introduction to understanding our missionary God.

Macquarie Park Campus (Sydney) | Tuesday, 6:45-9:30pm (Sydney time) | On-Campus, Livestream or Self-Directed Online – with Nicole Starling

In this unit we’ll be learning about the story of Christianity from the English Reformation to the present. We’ll learn about those who reinvigorated the church with their emphasis on personal devotion, and those who threw themselves into social activism and mission work - people like John Wesley, Catherine Booth and William Wilberforce. We’ll see how different denominations have emerged and influenced the way we practice our Christian faith today.

Macquarie Park Campus (Sydney) | Tuesday, 6:45-9:30pm (Sydney time) | On-Campus or Livestream – with Marc Rader

This is a one-semester overview of the Old Testament. It explores it from the perspective of covenant: the relationship between God and his people that plays out throughout the Old Testament and into the New. For the most part, this is a big-picture overview; yet at times, the unit stops to consider in more detail some of the individual stories and passages that demonstrate the bigger themes.

Macquarie Park Campus (Sydney) | Tuesday, 6:45-9:30pm (Sydney time) | On-Campus, Livestream or Self-Directed Online – with Andrew Dunstan

This unit is part two of our two-unit theology overview.

In this unit we examine how God’s work of redemption plays out in individuals and in the life of the Christian community. We explore what salvation is and how it takes root in our lives (including the work of the Holy Spirit, regeneration, justification, sanctification, etc.). We explore the nature and mission of the church in the world, and the foundations of Christian hope as we ‘wait for and hasten’ the coming kingdom of God (2 Peter 3:12).

Cross-Cultural Communication ‘does what it says on the label’...

This unit will help you understand different cultures and communicate better with them. You will do a personalised Cultural Intelligence (CQ) assessment, come up with a plan to develop your CQ, and then carry out that plan.

It’s flexible, fun, and challenging. Along the way you’ll hear experienced workers share the triumphs and tragedies of their own efforts at cross-cultural communication.

Macquarie Park Campus (Sydney) | Wednesday, 6:45-9:30pm (Sydney time) | On-Campus, Livestream or Self-Directed Online – with Andrew Sloane

The Psalter was the hymnbook of the Second Temple for ancient Israelites and it has continued to be front and centre in worship throughout the history of the church. Of course, it has also played a central and ongoing role in the personal devotion of both Jews and Christians.

In this unit, we will consider how the collection evolved into its final form and what factors may have influenced its formation. We will also discover the great diversity of psalms within the collection, resonating with the various lived experiences of people through the ages. These experiences encompass the heights of praise through to the depths of despair and the thankfulness that emerges when God responds to human needs.

Although prayer songs from ancient times this unit also poses questions about the use or non-use of psalms today and how they might enhance corporate worship and personal devotion.
