In this unit, the focus is on critical literacy with regard to the integration of digital technologies in teaching and learning. Increasingly, this is being described as ‘digital literacy.’ Being a digitally literate teacher does not mean transforming oneself into a technological guru. Rather, it is about creativity, problem-solving, and sound evaluation of each form of technology and its potential (or lack of potential) to enhance teaching and learning. It is about constantly questioning and making sound judgments about a technology’s power to amplify the learning possibilities for students. The unit will provide a broad overview of ICT in education and allow you to reflect on your use of ICT for your own learning, for teaching, and administration.
