Top 5 Bible Study Tips

Person reading the Bible

Wednesday 7th July 2021

Based off the title above, you might be thinking, “Study tips? But we already just had exams!” However, bible study is not just about cramming and late night study sessions before each set of exams. Bible study is the journey toward The Lord’s and yours ultimate mission for you, a journey that is to be studied wholly and with all your heart from the beginning right through to graduation.

When you fully immerse yourself in your bible college course (whichever area that may be!) you are positioning yourself to realise yours and His goals with flying colours – whether you’ve chosen chaplaincy, counselling, ministry or any of our other Christ-centred courses.

With all that being said, it is important to note that there are some tips and advice that can help you along your way as you navigate your course. We’ve compiled our top 5 bible study tips to help you get the most out of your time at Bible College.

1. Get amongst it

Getting out and about on campus with your peers and surrounding yourself with like-minded students and friends can only help nourish your bible study. Engaging in deep and meaningful conversation over a coffee about The Lord and all that you are learning from Him can help your overall studies as you all literally start learning by osmosis.

2. Read read read

This study tip should come as no surprise, but immersing yourself in as many books as you can will help you on your way immensely. Head to your campus library and bury yourself in some of our thousands of theological literature titles – or take it out and curl up at the coffee shop with a hot drink and lots of yummy (yet healthy – see point #5) snacks. Bible study sorted.

3. Review

Each week, set aside a short amount of time to go over everything you have learnt at Bible College that week. Read through it, review it, live it, say it aloud, and rewrite the main points. Keep those main points annotated weekly, and come the end of the semester, you have a nice summary of everything you’ve studied.

4. Podcast it

Podcasts are the way of the future, folks! Whatever disciple it is you’re studying at bible college, find yourself an appropriately themed podcast and put those headphones in on your daily commute to campus.

5. Look after yourself

What good are all these study tips if you’re sleep deprived and sick? Think of the magic number 8 to keep your health and wellbeing on track through your bible study: 8 hours of sleep each night, 3 + 5 fruit and veg each day (see what we did there?) and 8 to 12 glasses of water.

Keeping all the above tips in mind as you embark on each semester will ensure you continue on the great path He has planned for you. If you haven’t yet started your mission, but know that He is calling you, contact us at Morling College today for advice on where best to begin.
