Master Of Education

Course Description

The Master of Education course aims to develop graduates to critically assess and evaluate current theories and practices, who provide creative, discerning, and adaptive and complex solutions in a range of educational settings. Graduates may find employment in teaching, at senior levels of leadership and management in schools, tertiary settings or other educational institutions.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should have already attained either a 4-year undergraduate degree in education, an undergraduate degree with a Graduate Diploma of Education, or a Master of Teaching.

Applicants who first language is not English must demonstrate proficiency in English. This would normally be equivalent to a minimum overall IELTS score of 7.0 with the minimum score in the reading and written component being 7.0.

Course Pathways

Master of Education

To complete the Master of Education 96 credit points (cp) are required in total. Students can choose one of two pathways through the Course.
 

Course Pathways (enrolled before 2025)
Pathway 1: Coursework (8 units)

Students must:

  • complete the two core units, EDE800 and ED801 (24 credit points) and
  • select five electives (60 credit points) and
  • complete the capstone unit, EDE940 (12 credit points).

At least 50% of the units must be at AQF 9 (24 credit points).

Pathway 2: Coursework (4 units) and Research (4 units)

Students must complete:

  • the two core units, EDE800 and ED801 (24 credit points),
  • two electives including at least one unit at AQF 9 (24 credit points),
  • Research Methods in Education (12 credit points),
  • Advanced Research Methods (12 credit points) and
  • Research Thesis (24 credit points).
Course Pathways (enrolled from 2025)
Pathway 1: Coursework (8 units)

Students must:

  • complete the three core units, EDE800, ED801 and ED990 (36 credit points) and
  • select four electives (48 credit points, at least two at AQF 9) and
  • complete the capstone unit, EDE940 (12 credit points).

 

Pathway 2: Coursework (4 units) and Research (4 units)

Students must complete:

  • the three core units, EDE800, ED801 and ED990 (36 credit points),
  • two electives including at least one unit at AQF 9 (24 credit points),
  • Advanced Research Methods (12 credit points) and
  • Research Thesis (24 credit points).
