Course Description

The Master of Educational Leadership aims to equip and enable you to better fulfil your role as a Christian educator in leadership. Written from a Christian worldview each unit is designed to challenge and transform your thinking and practice in education. The course is offered online with lecturers who are qualified and experienced Christian educators.

Graduates may find employment at senior levels of leadership and management in schools, tertiary settings, or within other educational institutions or settings.

Entry Requirements

A four-year bachelor’s degree or combined degree in education of Master of Teaching plus two years of relevant professional experience.

OR

A bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline*, plus two years of relevant professional experience**

Applicants who first language is not English must demonstrate proficiency in English. This would normally be equivalent to a minimum overall IELTS score of 7.0 with the minimum score in the reading and written component being 7.0.

* “Relevant disciplines” may include arts, humanities, media, psychology, social work, business, economics, languages, linguistics, communications, policy studies, behavioural sciences, social sciences.
** “Relevant professional experience” may include roles such as teacher, trainer, coach, lecturer, educational leader, educational administration.

 

 

Course Pathways

To complete the Master of Educational Leadership, 96 credit points (cp) are required in total. Students can choose one of two pathways through the Course.

Course Pathways (enrolled before 2025)
Pathway 1: Coursework (8 units)

Students complete:

  • three core units ED801, EDL804 and EDL905 (36 credit points),
  • four elective units (48 credit points), at least two of which must be leadership electives, and
  • the Capstone Unit, EDL940 (12 credit points).

At least 50% of the total number of units (including EDL905 and EDL940) must be at AQF 9.

Pathway 2: Coursework (4 units) and Research (4 units)

Students complete:

  • three core units ED801, EDL804 and EDL905 (36 credit points),
  • one unit from the leadership electives (12 credit points) and
  • the two Research Methods units (24 credit points) and
  • a Research Thesis (24 credit points).

Pathway 1: Coursework (8 units)

Students complete:

  • three core units ED801, EDL804 and ED990 (36 credit points),
  • at least three leadership electives (36 credit points),
  • maximum of one elective unit (12 credit points) and
  • complete the capstone unit (EDL940, 12 credit points).

A minimum of 48 credit points must be at AQF Level 9.

Pathway 2: Coursework (4 units) and Research (4 units)

Students complete:

  • three core units ED801, EDL804 and ED990 (36 credit points),
  • two units from the leadership electives (24 credit points) and
  • the Advanced Research Methods units (12 credit points) and
  • a Research Thesis (24 credit points).
